AV Alliance News Round-Up | Summer Edition 2023 – Part 1

In the first part of the Summer Edition of our social media round-up we look back on the top news, projects, and updates by our AV Alliance members around the world in June and July, 2023! 

Special Effects Ltd | Budapest, Hungary

Hungary’s first and only light festival took place for the seventh time on July 6-9, 2023 in the city of Pécs. The Zsolnay Light Festival, which attracted over 100,000 visitors last year, also featured the Zsolnay Light Art international mapping competition, where 3D mapping works of art – the best 5 out of entries from 31 countries – were projected onto the facade of Pécs’s Cathedral. Our Hungarian member company Special Effects Ltd rented out their 12K projectors for the festival, bringing to life a stunning mapping show.

MAXI | São Paulo, Brazil

Our São Paulo-based member company MAXI supplied complete AV technology (audio, video, and lighting) for Netflix’s Tudum: A Global Fan Event 2023, which was livestreamed from São Paulo, Brazil on June 17. The three-day event, which was an immersive experience where attendees could be part of their favorite Netflix series through different activations, took place at the Ibirapuera Bienal Pavilion, which featured MAXI’s projection mapping on its façade, through which Hollywood stars in Netflix shows, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger or Chris Hemsworth interacted with the audience.

Novatech Creative Event Technology | Adelaide, Australia

Our Adelaide-based Australian member Novatech represented South Australia at the Meetings & Events Australia 2021 – 22 National Awards Night held on the Gold Coast, and were thrilled to accept the National Award for Audio Visual Services. This being their third win in a row, they have now entered the prestigious Hall of Fame for the first time.

A huge congratulations from us, too, to the entire team at Novatech on the well-deserved recognition of their hard work and dedication to delivering exceptional events and experiences!

Those living in and around the area are still able to witness the incredible atmosphere that Novatech has once again created at the Adelaide Botanic Garden for this year’s Illuminate Adelaide, which wraps up on Sunday, July 30. For the third year in a row, Novatech supplied event technology for this project and once again worked with Moment Factory, the team behind the show Light Cycles, to transform the Gardens into an illuminated wonderland. Gearhouse South Africa | Cape Town, Johannesburg & Durban, South Africa

The Durban branch of our South African member company Gearhouse was the technical service provider of the Durban Tourism Business Awards 2023, which was hosted at DBN ICC on June 15, 2023. The Durban Tourism Business Awards aims to recognise businesses in tourism that portrayed innovation and managed to adapt and thrive during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Smart Choice | Porto, Portugal

The municipality of Aldeia da Luz in Portugal was all decked out to host the second edition of the “Aldeia da Inovação Social” initiative, the biggest meeting of the government initiative Portugal Social Innovation. Mixing innovation with tradition, without detracting from the latter, was a challenge that our Porto-based member company Smart Choice excelled with flying colors as they delivered complete AV technology for the event.

Smart Choice has also recently delivered technical production for the Portuguese creamic tile brand Margres in the city of Beato, celebrating the company’s 20th anniversary, as well as the 15th anniversary of their “LOVE” collection. Colortone Staging & Rentals | Cleveland, OH, USA

Our Cleveland-based member company Colortone Staging & Rentals recently delivered the technical production of the annual event of the Greater Cleveland Partnership, creating an unforgettable experience for more than 1,000 guests. The Colortone team utilized an audio package with strategic speaker placement to fill the entirety of the Cleveland Museum of Art’s atrium. They also provided a curved LED 3D wall measuring 65 ft from end to end, and a range of large LCD monitors lining the walkway entrance into the event space, creating an immersive experience for guests.

Habegger AG | Zurich, Switzerland

The annual St.Gallen Festival took place in the city’s Abbey District from June 23 to July 7. A long-standing partner of the festical since 2006, our Zurich-based member Habegger AG was responsible for the entire lighting technology on site, and also staged the opera Andrea Chénier by Umberto Giordano against the breathtaking backdrop of the baroque cathedral of the UNESCO World Heritage Site..

 

In order to utilize synergies, the three major Swiss companies Zurich Insurance Group AG, Credit Suisse and Swiss Re joined together to form a so-called GV-Pool for the realization of their annual general meetings at the Hallenstadion Zurich this year. Habegger AG were significantly involved in the success of the three events, as they were responsible responsible for the intercom, the lighting, the entire rigging as well as for part of the stage construction. In addition, their venue team ensured the event technical operation in the Hallenstadion.

ES:ME | Doha, Qatar

Our Doha-based AV Alliance member ES:ME Entertainment Services has launched their brand new website, which is the perfect platform for event planning, design and production. The sleek design comes with a fresh, modern look and is easy to navigate, making it easier for potential customers to find the right services for any event needs. VCI Events | Anaheim, CA, USA

Our Anaheim-based member company VCI Events has recently opened their brand new warehouse. This new office is now the main hub for their operations and housing technology for all of the company’s events. Take a look below:

Media Stage | Miami, FL, USA & San Juan, Puerto Rico

Media Stage, which has recently added their Miami headquarters to our global AV Alliance network, was proud to be the audio provider of the NBA Finals back in June in Miami, Florida. The team was responsible for delivering PA systems, programming additional wireless mic packages ,and configuring audio feeds for both the Heat’s and the Nuggets’ press conference rooms.

Besides the NBA, Media Stage has also been busy with a project related to the NFL: once again the team was responsible for the pre-game tunnel lighting show of the Stanley Cup Final in the FLA Live Arena, which eventually saw the Florida Panthers score their first ever Stanley Cup Final victory in franchise history.

PM Blue | Hamburg, Germany

Our Hamburg-based member company PM Blue was responsible for the equipment and maintenance of the lighting technology of the Sigur Rós & London Contemporary Orchestra concert at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg on June 18. The Icelandic band is one of the most influential post-rock bands, and they brought their spherical soundscapes to the Elbphilharmonie to fully unfold with the London Contemporary Orchestra, conducted by Robert Ames

Nordic Rentals AS | Løsning, Denmark

This year our Danish member company Nordic Rentals was responsible for the complete AV production of the Scandinavian leg of Andrea Bocelli’s World Tour 2023.  The Nordic team has toured with Andrea Bocelli many times before and were happy to support him again in Denmark in Herning and Copenhagen, as well as in Oslo and Stockholm in Norway and Sweden, respectively. sld mediatec GmbH | Nuremberg, Germany

The Exhibition Centre London, short for ExCeL, is a fairground in east London that opened in November 2000 and spans over 400,000 m2, with the  exhibition hall itself consisting of two halls, each of the size of 32,500 m2. Our Nuremberg-based member sld mediatec GmbH recently installed new digital signage surfaces at the ExCeL, including three double-sided indoor LED walls with ceiling mounting, an outdoor LED wall gate arch at the fair entrance, various pyramid and cube led walls, single-sided and double-sided LED screens and much more. These digital signage surfaces inform visitors of the fair about upcoming exhibitions, weather, public transport, etc., and serve as a guide or even as an advertisement space.

Proshow Audiovisual | Calgary, Canada

One of our Canadian member companies, Proshow Audiovisual supported the Women’s LEAD initiative led by Nicola Wealth at the Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver, BC. This platform is dedicated to showcasing the inspirational and empowering stories of impactful women who serve as role models and mentors in our communities. Proshow worked together with  Countdown Events, providing technical assistance to the panel discussion.

Proshow also provided AV technology for the 60th anniversary celebration of the Calgary White Hat Awards held at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, which recognizes inspiring individuals in the tourism and hospitality sector.

Proshow also supported the 25th Annual Courage To Come Back Awards hosted by the Coast Mental Health Foundation at the Vancouver Convention Centre in June. Each year over 1,700 attendees gather together to pay tribute to and celebrate the remarkable resilience of five inspiring British Columbians who have triumphed over tremendous challenges, ranging from addiction battles to conquering mental health obstacles. Proshow provided full AV technology for the event.
